Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

Family Meal Planner ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what the app collects and how it is used. In short: your recipes and plans stay on your device, an account is optional, and the ads we show do not track you.

1. Data you create

Recipes, meal plans and shopping lists you add are stored locally on your device (SQLite). By default this content stays on your device and is not shared with anyone.

Family sharing (optional): if you create or join a family, the recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and recipe photos you add are synced through our backend (Supabase, hosted in the EU) and are visible to the members of your family. Only your family can see them — they are never public. You can leave a family at any time in Settings; your data remains on your device.

2. Optional account & profile

You can use the app fully as a guest; to make it work, an anonymous identifier is created (Supabase). Optionally, you may create an account with an email and password. If you register — or if you set a display name or profile photo — that information (email, name, avatar image) is stored in our backend (Supabase) so it is available on your account. We only hold what you choose to provide; there is no requirement to register, and providing a name or photo is optional.

3. Recipe import with AI

When you use the optional "import recipe" feature, the app reads a recipe from text, a PDF, or a photo. On devices that support on-device AI (e.g. recent iPhones), this is processed entirely on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. On other devices, the specific content you choose to import (that text, PDF page, or photo) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, solely to extract the recipe's fields. Only the item you import is sent — never your whole library — and it is not used to train AI models.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version shows ads via Google AdMob. On iOS the app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt. Where the GDPR applies (EEA/UK), ads are personalized only if you consent in Google's consent message; if you don't, you receive limited (non-personalized) ads. On Android, with your consent, AdMob may use the advertising ID to serve and measure ads. AdMob may process limited data (such as coarse signals and IP address) per Google's Privacy Policy.

Your consent (EEA/UK): where required by the GDPR, the app shows Google's consent message before serving ads. You can review or change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy options. Your choice is stored on your device.

5. Analytics & diagnostics

We use Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage (which features are used) and to receive crash/diagnostic reports, so we can improve the app. This data is not linked to your identity.

6. In-app purchase

You can buy a one-time "Remove ads" purchase through the App Store or Google Play. Payments are handled entirely by Apple / Google — we never see your payment details.

7. Data we do not collect

No precise location, no contacts, no payment details, and no cross-app tracking or advertising identifier. We do not sell your data. Aside from the optional account details above (email, name, avatar), we do not collect information that identifies you personally.

8. Your choices

9. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

10. Changes

We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
